ArcView Tutorial 3: Creating ISF Reservation Maps

Determining what your purpose is and what information you need. The first thing you need to do is determine what sort of map you will be creating and then what sort of information you need to accomplish this task. There will be a list of useful coverages in Appendix I. What are you trying to show with this map? What info do you need to include? There are examples of the Karluk maps in the Appendix as well.

For this ISF map you will need general physical information such as the coastline, lakes, and rivers. Adding these themes will be the objective here.  You should continue using the example.apr file you created in Part 2 of the tutorial.

1. Open example.apr. 

2. Creating a new view. We will make 3 different maps which will consist of three views and three corresponding layouts. There will be ISF Reach and Area and a Nav/Access map. If you work through each you should have a pretty good hold on how to do things in ArcView. To create the first, an Access map, make sure the "Views" icon is selected in Karluk.apr and click the "New" button (at right). When it comes up, maximize and View; Properties. Rename the view to "Karluk Access View" and set map unit to meters.
